Antep Pistachio
History of the Pistachio
The pistachio tree is native to the Middle East and Central Asia. Archaeological evidence shows that pistachios were eaten as early as 6750 BC. The form cultivated today dates back to the Bronze Age and descends from the region where Uzbekistan lies today.
Under normal conditions the tree is grafted 4–6 years after planting; the graft matures and begins to bear fruit in its fifth year. This process can take between 8 and 10 years.
